Found a baby bird today, parents nowhere to be found and no possibility of returning it to the (suspected) nest location. For now it’s cozy in a box with a macgyvered heat lamp and tomorrow morning I’ll be calling the local Audubon branch to see if they’ll take it.
I believe the nest is located in this vent 25 feet up the side of the house, and I only have an 8ft step ladder. This isn’t the first time I’ve found baby birds on the lawn underneath it, but it is the first time I’ve found one... uh... intact, to put it mildly.

Good on you for trying to save that little Robin!
The little ones need a lot of water too.

I hope they’ll take it. Poor baby.

If it were already injured I’d let nature run its course but I could never willingly put a helpless but otherwise healthy creature somewhere knowing that it’ll probably die.
A childhood spent raising chickens has prepared me for this.

They should. They’ve got a pretty extensive rehabilitation program, and a few of the admins are family friends.

I’ve been in that spot before. I once had to chase a Duck and her chicks with a stray chick in hand. For an hour..
I’d do the same as you did. It’s like a duty.

I love lobster but if I see it before it goes into the pot I can’t eat it.

I wouldn’t go that far.
Heck, I used to name the Angus Steers at my ex FIL’s Farm.
There’s Flank Steak, Strip Steak, T-Bone, Big Round, London Broil and many more..
There’s a difference between saving wildlife and good food.

Unsaved wildlife is somebody else’s good food.

No joke!
I had a neighbor back in Iowa that used to cruise for roadkill Deer.

My girlfriend says that is a starling, she has been a wildlife rehabilitator for 10 years. Hopefully audobon can take it in, or at least will know a good rehab center. Make sure you bring it in as soon as possible since baby birds need a lot of food!

I tried offering it some bugs and it just glowered at me.

I was actually a wildlife rehabilitator for two years, most of it was force-feeding baby birds with pureed cat food through a syringe. Fun times.

I did the same thing with a bird I found in my shop a few years back. It actually lived a long time. It liked to hang out where ever we we working and watch/make bird noises. He/she was was a cool bird.

My wife spent a couple weeks rescuing a sparrow about that age. Once it got on its feet she was mom. That bird got super smart and followed her for years.
